Called “the egghead” because of its unique bulbous nose design, this railcar set was introduced into regional service on the DB in 1953 as VT 12.5, where they remained in use until 1984 although one set has been renovated by the Stuttgart group of rail fans. Following the computer numbering in 1968, they became classified as class 612. This Fleischmann model is a complete new construction, reproducing the “egghead” in her original 1956 classic livery, with double headlights and two red tail lights. The digital version also offers the original sound on board!

In 1967, several of the 3-axled coaches were fitted out for the special "Rollende Weinstraße” train. The rolling wine tasting train ran over the rails within the well-known wine growing areas of Germany until 1983. Ideal train loco: 734102, 7126, 725071, 7251.

Turning to take a look at the HO gauge developments: Roco have been busy at the drawing board to produce a model of the Bavarian Special!
