system. This latest Fleischmann model sees the railcar
unit in her epoch IV appearance with the DB biscuit
emblem on the front.

The ICE 1, class 401, was the first of the series of German high speed trains to enter
service in 1991, running at 250km/h. Each ICE train is usually made up with one of the two
power cars at each end, with between 9 and 14 intermediate coaches. Although 14
coaches made up the train originally, these days, since refurbishment in 2008, twelve
coaches is the standard configuration.
Unlike their later cousins, designed to couple and split as independent units on the
journey, the ICE 1 generation was designed to operate as one complete train.

SOUND SOLOIST IN N GAUGE –
OPERATED FROM YOUR KEYBOARD!

The recently released "Taurus" locos from FLEISCHMANN are complete with SOUND – no speakers or decoders contained in additional carriages – all the prototype sounds are contained inside the loco itself.
There are several in the range:

731171 – Taurus Railjet
731173 – Taurus "Joseph Haydn"
731174 – Taurus "Hectorail"
731271 – Taurus Austrian railways
731272 – Taurus – 175 Years of German Railways

The Arriva loco 731271

for example, has fifteen different SOUND functions,
operated by your digital controller:

• LIGHTS:
Naturally, the front white triple headlights and red tail lights are co-ordinated with the direction of travel.
The headlights can be dimmed or on full beam by using function F4!

• SOUND:
Function 1 – will turn the sound on. The start-up sequence will take about 20 seconds to run through, including the sound of the air compressors, which can also be independently activated by function 7. As soon as the loco gently accelerates, the typical rising scale musical notes of the thyristors can be distinguished, and similarly when coming to a halt, the squeal of brakes is synchronised with the reducing speed.
Function 2 – will operate the mixed horn sound
Function 3 – will operate the low horn note
Function 11 – will operate the high horn note
Function 5 – will operate the platform background noise, the shrill guards whistle before departure, and a short loudspeaker announcement to get on board.
Function 8 – will operate the sound of the coach doors closing
Function 14 – will operate the 30 seconds of station announcement from Graz
Function 15 – will operate the 23 seconds of station announcement from Salzburg.
Function 16 – will operate the sounds of the couplings hooking up to the Coaches
Function 10 – will deactivate the sound, whilst Function 6 will switch the acceleration and deceleration on or off, with Function 9 bringing up the rear reduce the speed of the loco to "shunting speed" – half that of normal.
